We're pleased to welcome some new members to The Euro Trip team! You can look forward to seeing them appear in our blogs, vlogs and podcasts soon. Here you can find out a little bit more about Chloe, James and Noa...

CHLOE

Chloe is hoping for a good result from Spain
"Hey I'm Chloe! I'm 16, I live in the UK and I've been watching the Eurovision Song Contest since 2009, but since 2014 I've become much more of a fan and now I'm completely obsessed!

My favourite ever entry has to be Dancing In The Rain by Ruth Lorenzo from Spain 2014, but I also love Loreen, Guy Sebastian and Ann Sophie.

My favourite national final is by far Melodifestivalen from Sweden, I love the Swedish music scene a lot and I listen to a lot of music from there.

My current favourite entries for 2016 are Say Yay! from Spain and Hear Them Calling from Iceland. I'm so excited to be joining the team and I can't wait to get started!"

JAMES

"James' first song contest was in 2007 and he remembers loving Scooch! He has since not missed a contest. His favourite entry is "Euphoria" by Loreen, but a more unique favourite of his is "Crno I Belo" by Kaliopi. His favourite national final is Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, with his favourite song from the competition being "Stay Awake" - Simone."

NOA

"My name is Noa and I'm  17 years old girl from a little country called Israel!
I am currently a student but beside Eurovision my hobbies include  playing guitar (I play classic acoustic and electric) singing sometimes too! I also volunteer in the Red Cross!"

Noa was a big fan of Loreen
Eurovision and music been my passion ever since I remember myself! In my family Eurovision song contest is kind of a big deal because every year all our family gathering to watch it and we all starting to cheer when the Israeli act coming up!

My favorite contest  is from 2012 mainly because  I think the songs were all  great and of course the winner Loreen!

I can say Loreen left a huge mark on Eurovision and she is one my favorite Eurovision winners of all time! Also I found the stage design and the logo are really special and unique!

'A change is coming' but what is it?

This morning (Wednesday) the EBU revealed that tomorrow they'll be announcing an exciting 'change' to the Eurovision Song Contest, a move which they say will make our favourite music competition 'a lot more exciting'. But what could it be?

Since the announcement was released this morning social media has gone into overdrive around what could be happening in the world of Eurovision, with fans both excited and nervous about what might be to come.

In this blog we'll be assessing what the change might be...

China?

It's just over a year since Australia were given their pass to enter the Eurovision Song Contest, and sure they've been part of the Eurovision family for decades, but they are over 10,000 km's from the European continent.
Guy Sebastian was Australia's first competitor last year.

Since then fans have been nervous that other countries could soon be accepted to take part, with the most likely candidate being China. Broadcaster Hunan Television has been showing the contest for the last couple of years, and they even sent a delegation to Vienna last year. The EBU have also been quoted on the subject of China, saying "We are open and are always finding new and creative ways to bring new elements to the Eurovision Song Contest."

The reaction to China's possible addition to the contest has been largely negative from the fan community, but the potential for hundreds of millions more viewers to the contest is something which is likely to prove very attractive for the EBU.

Shorter Voting Procedure?

The Eurovision voting process is arguably the most exciting part of the contest. If two or more songs are trading twelve points then fans can be kept guessing for ages as to which country will be taking home the Eurovision crown. But lets be honest with ourselves...it can drag on.

In 2005 the voting was shortened with spokespersons only revealing the 8,10, and 12 points, but the whole process can still take around an hour to complete. Rumour has it that Swedish broadcaster SVT has proposed a change, possibly meaning that only countries qualified for the final can vote, or countries who failed to qualify will have their points added to each competitors total at the end of the contest. This would definitely make things interesting, but do you want the voting changed?

International Jury

Kind of a combination of our last two potential changes, the idea of allowing other parts of the world to vote in the show would add to Eurovision's global appeal. We've seen international juries used in the past, including by this year's host broadcaster during Melodifestivalen.

Unfortunately though this would give a definite advantage to countries singing in English, and further damage the chances of countries who wish to use Eurovision as a chance to showcase their ethnic language.

Return of the Orchestra

The orchestra at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest
This one has long been hoped for by large swathes of the Eurovision community. The contest would definitely become more high brow if the orchestra were to return, and it was an iconic part of the competition for the first four decades of it's existence. But haven't music trends changed moved on since the orchestra's were last seen in the contest 1999?

Let us know what you hope the change might be, or would you rather the competition remained the same?

SWEDEN: Elliot reviews Melodifestivalen Semi-Final 1

Saturday night saw the return of Melodifestivalen – Sweden’s national selection contest for Eurovision 2016. Widely regarding as one of the most popular and tuned into contests from the home nation and those across Europe, us here at The Euro Trip, didn’t miss out either to bring you all the highs and lows of the first semi final in Gothenburg.

First out of the blocks after a rather long, yet enjoyable number from the hosts Gina Dirawi and Petra Meade were Samir & Viktor with the song “Bada Nakna.” For the most part the song was enjoyable, seeming less hectic on stage but with still flairs of that made other tracks such as Groupie and Success truly that -  a success, the transition from the acoustic beginning into the more recognised sound of electronic, dub step was nice, and improved vocals! However, the solo dancer in the water in the middle of the arena was pointless and looked more like something having a tantrum than dancing, there were more too many musical breaks in the song which wrecked the flow of the song itself. It did however have the desired effect of being a strong opening song and with it qualifying to Andra Chansen we will once again see the boys fight for their spot in the final just like in 2015. Bada Nakna is already number 1 in the Swedish Spotify and iTunes charts.

Following Samir & Viktor was the rather sleepy and in more blunt words – dull Pernilla Andersson with “Mitt Guuld” as we said from the thirty second clip provided on Thursday we found the song boring, and sadly the full version did not change our minds, the song was simply one dimensional and did not go anywhere or captivate our attention, if anything it felt like a long three minutes and I for one was grateful when it ended, she was the fact act eliminated in the evening (no shocker there) so its bye bye Pernilla for this year.

Mimi has become a fan favourite with 'Aint No Good'
Third song of the night was the infectiously fun and bubble Mimi Werner and “Ain’t No Good” it was my favourite from the snippet and my word the girl did not disappoint! Fun, energetic, bubbly, fun again, Mimi was a delight to watch on stage with strong vocals and choreography, even the backing dancers were grinning and looked like they were loving it, also dressed like she was ready for a hoedown the song took me to Nashville stadium with her blend of country pop and I simply loved it! Whoever no performance is perfect and I did feel at times the backing vocals on the backing were too loud and overpowering at times and her voice started to waiver slightly at points in the final minute of the song. Sadly though Sweden did not share my love of this song and maybe it was because Mimi is not an established name is a strong semi final but either way the poor country queen placed 5th and will not advance any further, the cruel hand of Melodifestivalen strikes again!

Song 4 – Albin and Mattias with “Rik” oh look another male duo, just twice as cringe with a song half as good in comparison to Samir & Viktor, seriously I did not enjoy this performance at all. Mattias had decent vocals I shall concede and admit that much but the rest of it, nope! Albin’s rapping – awful, Albin’s performance on stage, again awful, he looked lost and disjointed, he kept looking and gesturing to Mattias the whole time, he looked totally out of his depth and made it all a bit unpleasant to watch, the staging was so dull and boring as well, just a bunch of blue lights really, and the song structure got very boring and very repetitive quickly. Basically I was not a fan of this and did not want to see it advance, but it did – to Andra Chansen and not I hope it’s drawn against a tough song and sent packing then!

Ace and Robin advanced straight to the Final
Up next was ex-Idol star Robin Bengtsson and the song “Constellation Prize.” I’m going to discuss the positives first, he’s not bad to look at, he has a very good voice and if that is playing the harmonica on the backing track then he has another talent to just singing! Staging, simple but effective, especially the black and gold lighting. Now the negatives, all simple and effective staging it was a bit dull and boring on the flip side of the coin, him just stood on a large block seemed a little pointless when already on a big stage and the lyrics to me were awful – dull, grade A love song lyrics, to me it sounded like something Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran would write then jazzed up with a harmonica to give it more energy and a USP element to the song. This dragged it down a lot for me, but it still deserved to advance in some format and it has – direct qualifier! Cant say I’m too upset with Sweden with deciding that as did want to see it in final and now it’s a certainty, well done Robin and see you in a months time!

Last to perform was the one everyone had been waiting for – Ace Wilder and “Don’t Worry” and after the snippet, I was worried, it seemed to lack something, but being fair I waited until the full song was released, and its good, no denying it. It has some comedy first world problem lines such as “My coffee’s cold” and “I’m always connected, but have no friends”. The song itself is catchy and memorable, but it does lack what has been known to be in every Ace Wilder song – the crashing heavy downbeat chorus! Replaced with a softer mambo style chorus instead it still gets people up and dancing I’m sure but still disappointing for me, the budget in staging from “Don’t Worry” and “Busy Doin’ Nothin’” is night and day, from just some lights and four backing dancers, to a six cubed tall pyramid, filled with five pre recorded Ace’s and the real one, before she decides to get down and join up with her backing dancers. As expected this sailed through to the final but do not believe this can challenge for the title and if it goes to Eurovision, a lot will have to be sacrificed to comply with the six persons on stage rule at Eurovision as again, a heavily vocalised backing track was used in Melodifestivalen.

So, do you agree with the four that advanced? Who should have advanced over an act that did? Share you opinion with us on here, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!

NEW MUSIC THIS WEEK...

Otto Knows - Dying for You

The Swedish DJ is back, and judging by this it was definitely worth the wait. 'Dying for You' combines a mysterious beat with haunting vocals. As the song develops it definitely becomes more anthemic and infectious. And that drop... brilliant.

Feder - Blind ft. Emmi

French producer Feder colaborates with Finish singer Emmi on this track. While laid back, this song also retains an intriguing beat which ensures the song keeps travelling throughout it's duration - and that music video looks like lots of fun!

Amna ft. Robert Toma - In oglida

This song has already been a huge hit in Amna's home country of Romania. The track is an edgy take on the traditional duet with both singers complimenting each other brilliantly. What genre is this song? There isn't really an answer to that question, there's something for everyone.

We hope you enjoyed this week's selection of new music. For more from us don't forget you can also find us on Facebook too.
